I don't know much about benefits but I believe your savings are not considered for the first 6 months. Many people make the mistake of living of their redundancy and then when they apply they are not eligible because they are outside the 6 month period and have some savings. May be worth looking into as it looks like it is up to £92 per week. Thanks for this, yes this is one of the first things I did after becoming officially unemployed

I didn't hear back. Then I received my first payment into the bank. The letter came about a week later.1 -

Ah ok, hopefully it's like that for me... I did read when registering that I would need to go to local job centre for an interview etc, so will hopefully hear something this week.Mortgage Free Wannabe Light Bulb Moment (Early 2012, started May 2012)

Yup. That came through just before the payment.20vt-rs said:monkey-fingers said:

I understand why you have to do it, but it's a sobering process. My work coach was a good guy and could see I was doing everything in my power to get a job, so he didn't really bother me. He was also really happy when I told him I had got a new job.
Whilst I was in there though, you could tell they were weary from others who clearly had no wish to actually get a job. He was trying to get a young woman to attend an interview and she kept coming up with excuses why she couldn't attend - she had a booking to get her nails done. It was her Gran's birthday. And so on.2
