Safe way to remove sticker residue?

OK why do they have to put stickers on everything? New freezer and when I removed the stickers on the front one has lest a horrible adhesive residue that doesnt want to come off. Same happened on one of our laptops. There are various ways that people suggest, one being nail polish remover (acetone). I reluctant to try that as past experience is that it can damage plastic surfaces.
Any suggestions?

I'd try rubbing alcohol if you have some, or hand sanitiser or vodka (if you have none of the first two).
Perhaps soak a piece of cotton wool in the stuff and hold it on the mark for a few minutes to let it penetrate.
Alternatively neat washing up liquid, or cooking oil may work if you applying with a cloth / kitchen towel.
I'd avoid acetone or an acetone free nail polish remover - they're designed to break down plastics. I'd be cautious with white spirit too.1 -
I use sticky stuff remover which I bought from Lakeland but you can buy it on Amazon.

WD 40 or something similar.0

I use WD40, which works well and won’t damage a painted surface like that. Spray some on. Leave it a minute then rub with a rag.
Sticky Stuff Remover is also very good as @marcia_ says0 -
Lighter fluid. A few drops on a piece of cotton wool1

Surgical spirit also works well:eek::eek::eek: LBM 11/05/2010 - WE DID IT - DMP of £62000 paid off in 7 years:jDFD April20171

Assuming you're in the UK, methylated spirit (aka meths or denatured alcohol), which is ethanol dyed purple with added methanol to make it undrinkable, is more widely available than rubbing alcohol and is what I usually use to clean sticker residue off surfaces.1

Isopropyl alcohol (also known as rubbing alcohol), you can buy it in different concentrations (70-99%) with the higher percentages useful for removing adhesives and cleaning electronics.
Definitely something you want to keep in the maintenance cupboard!Know what you don't0 -
While I agree trying the Isopropyl (IPA) at 90 or 95 % strength is a good bet as IPA evaporates usually without leaving a residue, but make sure room is well ventilated when using.
But before anything use what most of us have to hand, a rubber or eraser to remove the gummy residue.
You could try filling a plastic bag with ice cubes and holding against mark for awhile then use eraser to rub off.

furniture polish (spray) is what I use, leave it for a while and it should wipe clean"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "1
