Even if Cadent responds,  I doubt the answer would be anything other than "market conditions" which is just another way of saying "because we can".

There was a post here earlier (but since deleted) suggestting that new gas connections used to be subsidised by billpayers but that this subsidy might have been removed.
I don't know enough about the topic to know if that's correct, but if true it could explain a sudden jump in connection costs.

"Market conditions" could cover that then :)

But, I doubt Cadent even have to answer the question, if asked.

Deleted - but not by me. With the reference to a subsidy for new connections removed from standing charges section of the later of 2 Cadent documents.

Like you not a thing ever looked into - so did a bit of a hunt by google.

The upto 10m on public land allowance - referred to in April Cadent price link - the "Domestic Load Connection Allowance" and Ofgem decision by that name and DLCA - was to be ended.

A quick google will find references to it - 2020 Energy White Paper, 2023 Ofgem consultation and 2024 (Aug?) decision to end the subsidy - on mix of gov.uk and Ofgem sites.

But to be fair thats only my speculative interpretation - since it's no longer referenced in the Dec Cadent pricing guide in the standing charges section.
