My mortgage wasn't huge to begin with compared to some others but still cannot wait to pay it off!

Okay so the plan is to overpay by £5,000.00 a year until it's paid in full.

Will be trying to pay an additional £416.00 a month to hit this goal.

Now I do have around £3,000.00 in the bank but I want to keep that as an emergency fund.

I'll make my first OP this week.

£416 a month some how seems more achievable than the £5,000.
Another poster on a diary broke their goal down to daily, then £5 targets .
Well done and keep going, think of all the interest you will be saving.
Is there any restrictions on your mortgage for the amount you can overpay?

@ellenvan - it does! I was actually thinking about working out the daily amount when I was out with the dogs at lunch time.

So daily I would be around £13.80. That sounds even better.

So I can overpay by £5,100 a year which is really good.

Quick 15 minutes between meetings so repurposed an old coffee jar which is now a bank for my £1 and £2 coins.

I was online last night looking at clear acrylic ones but was sure I had seen an old jar somewhere. Found it in the cupboard with all the candles so made a lid, sellotaped it all together and added my first few coins.

Not much else achieved yet today but determined the kitchen will be spick and span before I go to bed tonight.

    I shall update later.

Tried to make my first mortgage OP today but was stuck in a loop between the website and the app.

Gave in and will maybe call them tomorrow to ask what I need to do.

Dinner on. Having chicken salad with onion rings. Fridge, freezer and cupboards are looking very bare which is what I am aiming for.

Really need to do better with the meal prepping, next week maybe!

I’m not sure who your mortgage is with, but I was given a sort code and account number to use for mine that I am able to pay as you would for another payee, with my mortgage number as the reference. Makes the overpayments easy but very frustrating when you want instant gratification and it can take a few days to show in the account.

The first couple of overpayments made me really nervous with how long they took to clear. I’d recommend a small trial overpayment first to check it all goes through okay.

(I now have a current account with the same bank as the mortgage provider and it does feel much simpler now.)

When I go to the website it does give you an account number and sort code to do a transfer from another bank so I suppose I could use that.

Was hoping there would be an easier way, I'll ask them tomorrow and go from there.

I just do a bank transfer to my mortgage when I want to overpay.

  • Worked until 9:30pm last night and scheduled a few changes to go through this morning so I could blitz some housework.

That plan didn't work, ended up with last minute meetings scheduled, been back to back since 9am.

Should be able to clean the kitchen between the next 2.
