What to do with cheques received before probate granted

I have received various refund cheques as executor. Probate is required, and I havent even got as far as the application yet. What should I do with these cheques? I have a bank account set up to keep any costs I cover transparent, can they be paid into there?

Alternatively should I set up an executors account and deposit them into there? I was under the impression that the account couldnt be used until probate was granted, but perhaps I can deposit, just not withdraw from one?

You don’t need probate to pay these into the account or an executors account. If they have Ben made out in your name then you can pay them in to the account you are already using for estate finances.

You also don’t have to wait for probate to close down accounts that are below the bank’s probate limit which with a lot of banks is as high as £50k.
