A question before I change utilities

Will Marin Lewis's team protect us if we decide to change utility, through Cheap Energy Club?
When the British Gas comparison offer was on a few weeks ago, I do believe that Martin Lewis said anybody changing to this new lowest tariff would be protected if BG had any problem with the switch?
Thanks in anticipation

  • He would have been talking about this: https://www.energy-uk.org.uk/our-work/energy-switch-guarantee/

Its a voluntary scheme that most of the big energy firms and a few others have signed up to. It's not run by MSE, as a comparison site their responsibilities pretty much end when you get your results.

Hi supersaver7. Martin Lewis is a bit like Santa he is a very busy chap🙂 he doesn't own or work here any more.
What do you think you need "Protecting" from ? if you switch to a lower cost fixed tariff you are protecting yourself, but YOU need to do the calculations, the tariff mentioned may not be available now as I don't know anything about your energy use or circumstances & have never successfully used "Cheap Energy Club I can't really help.

When they were promoting that special MSE tariff, MSE did say that they would help anyone who had difficulties. I don't think this applies to anyone making a "regular" switch via the Cheap Energy Club.

  • Hi,
Thanks for all your comments, they've been very helpful.
I'm new to this, so I probably should have been more direct as in the following question
If I chose a major player like Eon or EDF, would MSE Customer Services get involved if these companies started charging you more because of mistakes on their part?
As you have in effect been sort of recommended a package via their comparison site, would MSE CS get involved to help you with your case?
  • Very easy to answer - no, unless it is another MSE collective deal where they have specifically brokered the deals.

Think about it this way - if you use Compare The Market for your home insurance, buy a policy with Halifax Home Insurance, and you have probkems with that policy, you're going to go to Halifax aren't you, not to CtM!

Personally my advice in general is never trust a comparison site - and always check the actual vendor site.

But thats not a dig at the MSE energy club and any failings (although others have suggested problems with costs or expired deals etc in past iirc) - but comparison sites in general - particularly in my case home and car insurance.
