First House, Best way to pay for gas / electric
Recently moved into my first house and wonder what you all feel it the best way to pay for these bills?
We currently pay £25 Gas & £25 Electric by DD to Atlantic. They have recently got in touch to say that we owe £7 on the electric and they owe us £37 on the gas.
I don't mind over paying too much but wondered if there is a better way to pay for the gas / electric?

I am also with atlantic, they are really good, my advice is get them to lower your gas DD and increase your electric DD, this way you're not paying out any more money but it is going to the right place so you won't get into any difficulty, make sure they have you on the dual fuel option and also see if you can switch to the nil service charge, they don't tell you this but... when i enquired what the service charge actually did the guy at atlantic told me that it basically doesn't do anything so they agreed to take it off!
The only other thing is just to keep an eye on it, it may seem like a hassle but always check their estimated readings, they once sent me and my bloke a bill for £2000 of electric based on an estimated reading(we actually owed £23) you can join online and then you can view your bills on there and also give them meter readings, i do this once a month to keep it in check...anal i know!0 -
Thanks ecoelle,
I'm only with them because the last home owner was, in the first few very confusing weeks of bills and money I wanted to keep things simple!
Now things have settled down I'm looking to trim anything I can off what I spend. I'll call them when I'm in work next and see what the deal with them is.0 -
ecoelle, I spoke to them today and I am on the nil service charge and also the dual fuel
. I have also signed up online and will provide monthly meter readings to keep them in check! 0 -

You don't really need to provide monthly readings, as they issue an invoice based on an actual meter read every six months. Remember that if you leave Atlantic before your twelve months is up, you will not receive your one month free loyalty bonus. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
