Scottish Winter Fuel Payment

Today my bank accunt recieved a payment of £101.70 attributable to the Scottish Pension Age Winter Fuel Payment. As my taxable earnings exceed £35000 they will claw the payment back via PAYE.
My concern is the administrive cost involved in the payment and clawback will probably exceed the amount that was paid.
Is this process a waste of public money, does anyone know?

Probably......but if you were that concerned you would have opted out to avoid the administrative cost?OAPTROON said:Today my bank accunt recieved a payment of £101.70 attributable to the Scottish Pension Age Winter Fuel Payment. I received my £203.40 heating bung today so will stick that in Zopa savings until they decide how it will be clawed back from those of us that fill in annual SA returns.
I know they say via PAYE but still wonder if the payment will be pre-filled somewhere on the SA form.
I also have another dilemma, how to spend my £10 Pension Winter Bonus that also arrived today.1 -
Didn't know I could opt out. Haven't recieved any notification of payment, just arrived in bank account.Isthisforreal99 said:

Details are here for Scotland. Nothing you can do now for this payment but you could opt out of future payments if you wanted.OAPTROON said:

Whether it's pre filled or not there will no doubt be boxes for it and you would have to make sure you included it on the return.Ayr_Rage said:I received my £203.40 heating bung today so will stick that in Zopa savings until they decide how it will be clawed back from those of us that fill in annual SA returns.

The alternative would involve much more public money, energy, and resources.OAPTROON said:Today my bank accunt recieved a payment of £101.70 attributable to the Scottish Pension Age Winter Fuel Payment. As my taxable earnings exceed £35000 they will claw the payment back via PAYE.

I doubt the total cost would be any different. Just more "seen to be doing" politics.CosmoChic said:

I know Troon is quite a posh place but I have never heard a bank account referred to as such, is it similar to a creche in Morningside?Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke0
