Shouldn't be too hard. Not necessarily accurate but not hard. AI or a simple ctrl+f to search for Trump and go from there. I'm sure all the false positives will be thoroughly investigated and passed as harmless and won't end up a S. American prison.TELLIT01 said:It won't worry Trump as he will just say 'do it', but I'd love to know how a system for checking social media of hundreds of thousands of people will be created in the short time scale he wants.0 -
Sarcasm and satire can be tricky to discern in the written word, especially without any indicators of humour such as emojis, etc, but I'm assuming that this isn't a serious suggestion that the screening is specifically for references to Trump personally!prodigy9 said:

We got our estas in August and flew into Newark, New York mid September. We ignored the social media section as it was optional. At immigration they weren't interested in our phones (or anything else for that matter) just as long as we had a return flight booked. Queuing time was about 2 minutes.
If you want to take extra precautions you could always uninstall the social media apps that are of concern and reload them once you are through border control. Have a nice day.1 -
No I'm not being sarcastic. Why else would they be screening the social media residents of allies in the land of free speech. Anyway, this thread has taken a turn.eskbanker said:

Even the arch-narcissist himself wouldn't be introducing a policy like this just to find out what people are saying about him! The stated intention of such measures is to target "those who advocate for, aid, or support designated foreign terrorists and other threats to national security; or who perpetrate unlawful anti-Semitic harassment or violence" rather than those saying nasty things considered to be uncomplimentary about the occupant of the White House, so the notion that such assessments would be based around a text search for one key word really isn't a credible proposition....prodigy9 said:

Well that's a relief after I've been slagging off Judd Trump for losing to Selby...eskbanker said:

@eskbanker You have far more faith in Trump than I do.4

I'm sure there'll be plenty of bridge players concerned about being able to freely discuss their enthusiasm for No Trump contractszagfles said:Well that's a relief after I've been slagging off Judd Trump for losing to Selby...
The relevant authorities can obviously object to prominent political critics (there was also that notorious case of the tourist with the JD Vance meme on his phone) but they can clearly already do this, rather than having to introduce a new screening process.Woodstok2000 said:

I'm not saying that I have faith that the new process wouldn't be misused, but was simply challenging the risibly simplistic idea that it would be implemented via a text search for the word 'Trump'!TELLIT01 said:@eskbanker You have far more faith in Trump than I do.1 -
We've had 3 not so UK-friendly presidents: Obama, Biden, and Trump since I had my unlimited visa in a previous passport.I can see there being some benefit to gauging people's likelihood to break the law based on their social media profiles. But the real problem with these sorts of measures is that the actual criminals/wrongdoers will probably have secret accounts to do their dodgy dealings via, so it's really more of a control over the law-abiding people.0
