What lead do i need?

Hi

I have a load of vinyl (33s and 45s) which i would love to be able to put onto my PC. I have seen usb turntables but don't want to and can't afford to spend that sort of money. We have a turntable to play them on and OH seems to think we should be able to get a lead to connect that to my laptop and transfer them that way with one of the software programmes we have like nero.
Can anyone advise if this is possible and what sort of lead we would need?.

Thanks
We love what we are doing and we love why we're doing it!!

red/white RCA phono cable to 3.5mm male stearo cable -

or do you have a headphone socket on the turnable unit - if so, a basic stearo cable 3.5mm with jack to the PC audio input socket - some software like audiograbber and away you go :)

You'll need to connect the turntable to the PC via your amplifier.

  • If your connecting your turn table up to your sound card you might need a pre-amp unless there is one built in to the turn table as the output from them can be very low. I think maplin sell pre-amps if you need one
Nothing to see here, move along.

As said before you can't connect your turntable direct to your laptop as the signal isnt amplified, well it is on some but not very often. so if it is a separates system with an amp etc then connect the turntable to your amp and the amp to your laptop. if the turntable is part of an all in one system similar thing connect the hifi to the laptop.

The cable mentioned above should be ll you need, but it really depends on the outputs available to you on your amp/hifi. red/white phono are the standard for stereo audio connections so if it has an output then it should be those. if there is no output then you may need to get yourslef a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack plug and use the headphones socket out of the hifi.
