Money Moral Dilemma: Should I ask the driving school for my money back?
Comments

If this was me I'd just do the course and accept test in June. However I am unsure of your situation. Can you already drive and only took the course for the test? If this is the case then put up a fight but if you need to learn to drive then if it was me I'd accept.0

If they have lied once they will do it again. Take the refund and go elsewhere.0

You are predicting you will be up to test standard by February, there are no guarantees of that, so accept the June test and get on with learning to drive properly, and hopefully be ready to test in June.
My brother in law has just retired from being a driving instructor, he says the whole system is a shambles and needs a rethink.
Block booking driving tests is backing up the system, to be sold to the highest bidder.
Each learner should book there own test individually with there own unique driving licence number, that way one can only be booked at a time (computers are good at that sort of thing) and block booking would disappear overnight.
Good luck.0 -
Don't know much about booking tests as I am a non driver, but I would say unless you have it in writing from the driving school that your test was actually for a certain date in February I would not think you have a case.0

If you have a test booked you can change the date
Download the testi app that may find you an earlier date if you are quick when they come available0 -
If it said tests available IN Feb then I'd just get my money back and book through the normal channels for whenever you can get, and keep checking a few times a day for cancellations. Have the odd lesson here and there to keep your hand in.
It's frustrating but unfortunately it's how it is and you've just got to be patient. I'm surprised the instructors aren't booking test dates after the first few lessons to secure them.0 -
From spring 2026 only learner drivers will be able to book tests

If you have it in writing you may be able to fight to get some sort of refund, but probably only a partial one. However, they may well cease to trade with you. So, if they are providing a vehicle for you to take the practical test you might be shooting yourself in the foot unless you have a viable alternative. As there seems to be an issue with test backlog in your area they might find you a test centre with a February date --- but way out of your area and that might be of little help.
It looks as if you are having a "learning experience" about how some businesses operate!0 -
What's the moral dilemma?
It really is up to you what you do here, how long will it take if you cancel the June test? Can you book one yourself for June? If you know you can't and you can't wait any longer, then suck it up! If not, get your money back and keep trying.
As we can't ask questions here, and this is not a moral dilemma, it shouldn't have been posted here.I'm FTB, not an expert, all my comments are from personal experience and not a professional advice.Mortgage debt start date = 11/2024 = 175k (5.19% interest rate, 20 year term)- Q4/2024 = 139.3k (5.19% -> 4.94%)
- Q1/2025 = 125.3k (4.94% -> 4.69%)
- Q2/2025 = 108.9K(4.69% -> 4.44%)
- Q3/2025 = 92.2k (4.44% -> 4.19%)
- Q4/2025 = 44k (4.19% -> 3.94%)
- Q1/2026 = 39k (3.94%)

I recall a case where the learner had a similar feeling and booked a test themselves, which was earlier than the test booked by the company (which were supposed to change the test to an earlier date if possible.) When the company were approached for a refund, they responded by cancelling the test that the learner had booked for themselves, as they obviously had enough details to get into the system to do this. So if time is of the essence, then it would be prudent to suck it up as you would otherwise risk finding yourself at the back of the queue - heading there after it has taken you X weeks to argue the case and obtain a refund.
Agree, this isn't a Moral Dilemma. It just involves a morally bankrupt company who appear to promise what they can't deliver.0
