energy club recommendations dont include EV tariffs

Ive noticed that the MSE energy club tarrif comparisons dont include any EV tariffs and Im looking for some advice on how to move forward with best option
Recently moved to scotland from NI, house has a built in charging point so Im making the switch to an EV.
So i need to sign up to an energy tariff and want one with favourable overnight charging rates
According to energy club im on flexible Octopus (no exit fee - I assume previous owners were on octopus and they have just put me onto the flexible as Ive just moved in )
Some recommendations save around £100 but they dont say if they have an ev tariff (home energy is top and I cant establish if they have one from their site)
Any advice from other EV users?
please go easy on me as im pretty new to this ( It was one gas provider in NI lol)

This might help as a starting point but is a little out of date.

What charge point do you currently have? Do you know what EV you are getting?1 -
I think Martin has said that they are in the process of working on a tool that would help with comparisons for smart tariffs, but they're not quite there yet.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I hope you took meter reading(s) when you took possession? Find out your supplier by visiting the Energy Networks Association to find your Distribution Network Operator (DNO), then contact that DNO to get your supplier details.theballboy said:

Will be buying an Hyundai ioniq (original) 38kw - really only do around 8 to 10k year (no commuting)
Turns out it is octopus that are supp;lying currently so just switched to a 12m fixed tariff with them, better rates than flexible with no exit fee.
Have option of adding 'Octopus go' electric tarriff whenever I get the car (if I can find one - hardly any around in aberdeenshire)
but i can swap at whatever point to something better if its available

You need to know things like your EV mileage etc to get any meaningful figures.theballboy said:Ive noticed that the MSE energy club tarrif comparisons dont include any EV tariffs and Im looking for some advice on how to move forward with best option

I'm on IOG with 2 EV's (10 to 12K a year between them) & paying the same amount (actual bills) as we did pre EV ownership over 2 years ago.Life in the slow lane1 -
MSE's list of EV tariffs. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/ev-energy-tariffs/
You'll need to run your own calculations.
When you plan on charging and how much you need per charge can also influence your choice (typically 5 hour vs 6 hour cheap charging),.
If your heat source is gas you also need to factor that in unless you're willing to split suppliers.
Whilst many do well on Intelligent Octopus Go it isn't always the cheapest option for all use cases. The day rate may matter more than how low/long the cheap rate is.
Edit: missed the post with proposed car & charger details.1 -
I noticed that on EV Tariffs effectively it's like Economy7 on electricity in that you need to be able to set your EV charging overnight usually between midnight and 5 or 6 am. Also you often see the Gas tariff on an EV combo is higher that a normally fixed Gas tariff. Make sure your home charger & App supports scheduled charging for your EV or PHEV (I set mine to start at 11:59 pm).theballboy said:Ive noticed that the MSE energy club tarrif comparisons dont include any EV tariffs and Im looking for some advice on how to move forward with best option

We really need Martin to compare EV tariffs asap as so many people have purchased EV or PHEV vehicles the last 12-24 months and public charging is SO expensive.
We swapped EoN for British Gas a while ago and my fixed EV tariff is 7.524p per kWh between 00:00 and 05:00 and 22.019p per kWh outside this so it really does pay to use higher electricity use overnight.0 -
