How do I find my own will

2»

Comments

  • You dont need your old will to write a new will, the creation of the new will automatically invalidates the old one so the only risk is if your executor can only find the old will which seems fairly unlikely if you can't even find it.

When a solicitor firm goes bust the SRA appoints another firm to hold all their former records. Unfortunately solicitors going bust isnt that uncommon and so you can often find its been transferred several times

No I don’t need it but it’ll be a memory jogger for who I promised the family heirlooms to. The copy will do for that.

At the time, I received a letter telling me where the solicitors cases had been transferred to.

On companies house there’s a lot of details about where WIP went to but not old paperwork. I rang one of them in my area (the other was a conveyancer) and they didn’t have me on their database.

I have managed to find it. Took some digging and had to go back to the SRA. as someone said it had been passed on a few times. Fortunately I had a copy so I had the exact date and exactly who did it (26 years ago).
dissapointed the solicitors didn’t register it or suggest registering, but I know better now.
    Thanks to all.
