Probable best to start with the current insurers they will allow the policy continue. Yo need to inform them of the death anyway.

Unfortunately, the insurance was not renewed, so there isn't a current insurer.

It is going to be more expensive than usual insurance if the property is empty - but well worth it as often even continuing with the previous insurers isn’t enough as they will have so many exclusions. We worked out we might be covered for falling aircraft but little else! The specialist insurers have their own conditions and I’d look at those to see what is best for you. I went with Vasek because the property only needed checking every two weeks and as this meant a longish journey in the pandemic that worked best for me. Heating had to be on at a particular setting and loft  access left open but neither was a problem. I went through an insurance broker as I’d not used the specialist market before. No problem when house sold the remaining months were repaid immediately the insurance company were informed.

Is the house unoccupied ? How long has it remained unoccupied ? Will it be unoccupied for the foreseeable future ?
Have a search online for probate house insurance.  Saga insurance is experienced with this situation.
You may well need restricted building insurance called FLEA 'Fire, Lightning, Explosion, and Aircraft' cover.  As likely no cover for storms, flooding, vandalism or theft after a sustained period of non occupancy.  Plus an obligation to maintain heating above 15C and undertake weekly inspections is possible.
