Signed up to Hastings You Drive without realising that it uses a black box to monitor your driving, this wasn't for me so cancelled within the 14 days cooling off period. The deposit was £46 and all I received back was £6, all the rest was kept in fees. BE VERY AWARE and read the small print which is what I should have done. A costly mistake for me but hopefully this will warn others.

from what you have said, hastings have on this occasion don nothing wrong. Sounds more like buyer regret.
£40 fee is probably just below average

Fair warning. Were the fees retained specifically because of the black box nature of the policy or would they apply regardless of product type?

Did you sign up from a comparison site? You might miss the telematics flag on the listings but it's pretty prominent on their own website.

Had these comments about Bymiles insurance.
When you take out the policy it asks you, do you understand there is a £50 fee for the black box even if you cancel the policy in the cooling off period. £50 fee if black box is not returned etc.
You have to tick 5 boxes at least.
People still say I did not see it.
You can’t help some people.
Please read what you are agreeing to when you take out a policy.
Same with auto renewal, so many complaints.
