Kia Ceed 2021 Issue

I have a 2021 plate Kia Ceed automatic petrol 1.5L vehicle. We have an issue where the car seems to stall on starting but only intermittently although it seems to be more regular over the last couple of days. Sometimes the immobiliser and engine management light comes on sometimes it doesn't. Once you turn the ignition off and back on it seems to be fine. Sometimes the engine management light comes on and stays on for a few days then goes off.

Its been to a Kia garage multiple times but the faults never show or manifest when at the garage so they say they can't do anything.

When the engine management light came on the once, the fault codes were PO49D Manufacturer Control & PO404 Exhaust gas recirculation control circuit range/performance shown on a cheap reader from Amazon.

I am not sure if this is all 1 thing wrong with the vehicle or 2 different things.

I have purchased a cheap battery/alternator (Hilka) and this shows both to be fine.

As a side note, putting premium fuel in the vehicle it doesn't seem to present the faults as when putting normal unleaded in. Although this may just be a coincidence.

I don't suppose anyone has any ideas please? TIA

  • P049D is an EGR message, too.

That's got to be your first place to look.

It's entirely possible that if the EGR valve is stuck open, the mixture might be too lean when it's still cold and the engine management is open-loop because the lambda's not warmed up yet. And, yes, that could easily cause stalling. Especially in cold weather.

Thanks, We did suggest this to the original garage but they just said as the faults are not showing they cannot do anything. I am going to try a different Kia garage so hopefully they might be more willing to look into the issue.

The stalling is sporadic so can be sometimes after 3-4 engine starts in a day or the first engine start of the day - or even the last so its very strange.

I am hoping all the issues I am facing are linked to 1 thing wrong with the vehicle and the new garage can sort this.
