Is this holiday a 'backpacking' holiday for insurance purposes?

I am seeking insurance for a relative taking a 3 week holiday in Thailand with a friend.

My question is if its considered 'backpacking' or a holiday as far as travel insurance goes?
Im checking comparison web sites at this stage so there is no company to call and ask just yet.

Its a 3 week holiday with a return flight already booked so not open ended. First 3 night accommodation booked but the rest will be sorted when there, there will be travelling but to known (typically tourist) destinations likely by train.

Does this sound like it fits the criteria for standard worldwide holiday insurance or would it be a backpacking trip (as there is a backpack involved  :) )

Thanks

A backpacking holiday usually refers to an extended holiday, say 3 months or more. Backpacking insurance caters to these long holidays, often allowing flexibility to change the itinerary and visit other countries than the ones originally stated. Potentially even return to the UK for a short period of time during the holiday.

From what you say I don't think you need anything more than standard worldwide holiday insurance.

"Backpacking" generally means a budget but long trip - there is no policy definition and in principle you can buy a backpacking holiday for 1 weeks in Benidorm or a standard policy for 3 months trekking around SE Asia - there is no policy term requiring a backpack to be involved.

3 weeks is well within the scope of a standard policy so you could consider a backpacking policy which may be cheaper if you are planning on staying in hostels etc or you could get a more inclusive policy if you are needing better cover for stuff and/or are staying in nicer venues.
