Balance Transfer card - does transfer have to happen when opening account?

Please can I ask a very quick and hopefully simple question about balance transfer cards.
Im looking to transfer around £750 to a 0% balance transfer card and pay it off over around 6 months - in general, do you need to do a transfer during the application process or can you transfer afterwards?
Ive done the eligibility checker on MSE and there are a few offered to me including 0% transfer fee and 0% interest from the likes of Virgin Money and Nat West (Assuming I have read this correctly)
Thanks

You usually have a set period to complete the transfer following approval - typically 30-60 days but it will vary by lender and potentially by product.Ant555 said:

With my last-but-one 0% balance transfer card, I transferred one balance as part of the application and a second one through the website (or app?) a week or so later.N. Hampshire, he/him. You often have the opportunity to do the balance transfers during the application process, but sometimes they don't always go through when you do it this way.
I applied to to balance transfer three different cards onto the HSBC during the application, and NONE of them worked. I waited 3-4 days to be certain and then did the exact same cards using the HSBC website instead and they all worked perfectly and were paid within 24 hours. 🤷♂️• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.1 -
Thanks for the useful info .
