Santander Security is OTT

I have just set up a Santander account - partly but not only for the bribe. But their security is over the top - facial recognition/voice matching/endless codes and a really cluttered, messy interface in the app or online.
I refuse to give anyone my biometric information - it's bad enough that the state has it - please can some tell me that all this hassle is only at the beginning and soon I can just log on easily with one simple login code. Or am I dreaming?
Not long ago I banked for my mum at Santander. It was never like this.
It's just not worth this much of my time. 🤦🏻♀️

It's quick and easy to login with FaceID on my iPhones and iPad. The app still likes to give lots of warnings you need click through when I make payments but otherwise it's fairly painless.stripling said:I have just set up a Santander account - partly but not only for the bribe. You can use a PC. I don't even have an app.
But in this case you can't avoid OTPs. And their login OTPs are just crazy - alphanumerical 8(?) characters, mixed letters and numbers. To make things worse they disabled 'paste' on this webpage so that your are supposed to copy the OTP manually from your phone. Luckily, all letters are uppercase- what a relief!2 -
If you're using Chrome, there's an extension for that - "Don't F*** With Paste"grumpy_codger said:To make things worse they disabled 'paste' on this webpage so that your are supposed to copy the OTP manually from your phone.2 -
I know. I'm using FF with a similar extension. Just wanted to prove my point how crazy their login procedure is in a browser.1

I only have to use OTPs for new payees or very large payments to existing payees. They want you to copy OTPs manually from your phone for security reasons.0 -
If you are using Firefox, you will be asked for an OPT on login, unless you enable pop-ups for the Santander website. There may be other things that Santander takes exception to in your technical setup.grumpy_codger said:I know. I'm using FF with a similar extension. The new ones just generate/require a 6-digit numerical OTP... a vast improvement on the old ones.3 -
They are not case sensitive, upper or lower case will do.grumpy_codger said:You can use a PC. I don't even have an app.

They want you to copy OTPs manually from your phone for security reasons.Well, the topic here isSantander Security is OTT
I don't remember any other financial institutions doing this - and I have accounts with dozens. And if even an amateur like me can easily disable this 'security', isn't it worthless?

If they don't like something in my setup they could have told me this. Otherwise, how am I supposed to know?
Really vast - 1 million combinations instead of 3 quadrillion (I had to google for 10^15).Section62 said:grumpy_codger said:You can use a PC. I don't even have an app.

Yes, I only discovered that Santander OTP's aren't case sensitive a few weeks ago after adjusting between upper and lower case when entering them for probably 5 years or more. So much easier now, I discovered this when someone on here commented that Cahoot OTP's aren't case sensitive, Cahoot being part of Santander.molerat said:
