Hotpoint Washing Machine Seal

So, yesterday water leaked from bottom of door of washing machine. Managed to drain water and open door to find the arm of a jumper wrapped and tangled in the seal. Pulled out of the seal and is damaged not torn, still leaking as tried another wash. I never overfill the drum as I have 9kg and was washing mainly light kids clothes. Hotpoint are trying to say it's my fault and will potentially charge me for engineer call out and repair. The machine is NOT 2 MONTHS OLD!!! In all my years of washing I've not had clothes get caught in seals, small socks maybe, but we all know how to load our machines correctly. Of course, they advised me to take out their insurance and no appointments until 15 December......do I take out insurance to cover repair costs?

I'm going to guess, tho' that is all it is, that you inadvertently caught the edge or end of the jumper sleeve in the door when you closed it.
As you say, clothes just don't get caught in there once the wash is underway - I have never had this happen, but have caught myself shutting the door with summat in the way.
That ain't a cert, but it's most likely.
A local appliance fellow will replace the seal for not too much - a half hour task for them.

Looking at it from the manufacturers point of view, they know that their machines don't regularly do this (they did in the 90s but that's another story) and they don't know what you've been doing with the machine since you've had it.

My how things have changed though, when I was a repair man for Hotpoint many years ago we didn't care what the cause of the problem was, if it was under guarantee we fixed it (which is probably why Hotpoint failed and was sold to the Italians, then the Americans, then the Turkish).
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
