Winter Fuel Payment … if one eligible person who is not entitled opts out does the other person get
I have read the govt info a number of times and don't believe there is clarification on my question below: ( I also read the threads here )
My question relates to aged 70 couple not on benefits where one person has income over £35k ( person A ) and one under. ( person B )
In the event of the person earning the most not opting out of payment , each person will get £100 and HMRC will claim back the £100 from the person with income above £35k.
If the person A opts not to receive the payment will person B get £200?

They shouldn't do no. If they did it would make it a bit of a mockery of the whole thing really.SpaceCowboy55 said:the full payment?I have read the govt info a number of times and don't believe there is clarification on my question below: ( I also read the threads here )

I got the benefit as I retired this year , normally my husband gets the benefits he retired a few years earlier , I got a letter saying I’m getting £200 which I did , my husband never got the letter, but did get £200 a few weeks later? So we are expecting them to ask for the money back0

I don't know how you have ended up getting £400 in total but if either of you have (taxable) income of more than £35,000 in the current tax year then yes, you will have to pay it back through the tax system.suzy_g said:I got the benefit as I retired this year , normally my husband gets the benefits he retired a few years earlier , I got a letter saying I’m getting £200 which I did , my husband never got the letter, but did get £200 a few weeks later? Each person is looked at separately so one might keep it and the other have to pay it back.0 -
