Car Finance and Warranty Mis-sold ?

Hi everyone, can anyone help or advise a course of action as I am at the end of my tether after several stressful situations involving my used car developing faults after purchase.
In Feb 2024 I bought a 3yr old Jaguar iPace by PCP from a car supermarket style dealer (seller).
I had been reluctant to buy as it was out of warranty and it only came with a limited short term warranty but was then told if 'I wanted peace of mind' I could upgrade to the special EV upgraded warranty to cover three years. As I didn't want any unexpected repairs costs I agreed to purchase the car and the warranty both as part of the finance agreement, the warranty costing £1197.00 (plus interest over the term)
The problems started soon after purchase.
1) Aircon did not work (prob from purchase but as it was Feb did not notice
- Diagnostic done, recharge suggested and done
- £110 paid by me
2) Breakdown in a car park
- recovery under the warranty back to seller (as requested by seller)
- failed to repair - advised it needed a main JAGUAR dealer diagnostic.
- told that I couldn't have the vehicle shipped to JAGUAR as it was a one recovery per fault.
- after much argument seller shipped to main dealer Jaguar.
- JAGUAR discovered faulty electrical power unit
- astonished to discover this was NOT COVERED under the 'upgraded EV' warranty
- £250 paid by me (Jaguar originally quoted £1200 but discounted as they thought the warranty was unreasonable.
3) Aircon still not working
- seller checked again- no fault found - recharged for free.
4) Alarm started to go off randomly
- at one point whilst actually driving
- fault cleared itself in time
5) Aircon stopped working again
- this time fault found by seller (along with many other apparent faults on the print out)
- told it needed JAGUAR dealer repair.
- left vehicle with JAGUAR who identified a faulty weld on the AC unit where the metal pipes meet
- Warranty claim rejected as the daignostic report included the term 'pipes' ... an exclusion under the term 'parts which should be regularly maintained and replaced are not covered, including tyres etc etc etc and pipes' How is a welded pipe supposed to be regularly maintained and replaced?
- quoted by JAGUAR £4,200 for repair, no way can I afford this but had to pay the diagnostic
- £580 paid by me - seller customer service said they would attempt to liaise with warranty provider and dealer to resolve - nothing happened
-complaint to both seller and warranty provider, both rejected.
6) Alarm randomly going off again
- fault cleared itself in time, not reported to seller as I was scared of further diagnostic costs
7) Stability Control error fault appeared with the dashboard warning 'reduced braking efficiency'
- car was driveable but didn't brake as well and wouldn't hill start
- fault cleared itself in time.
8) Stability control error appeared again
- This time the ABS braking activated itself during driving, rendering the car undriveable.
- recovery under warranty again back to seller, as advised under the terms of the warranty.
- After complaint to seller's customer service they agreed to transport to JAGUAR for one hour diagnostic with a view to a warranty claim.
- After one month I received an email from the seller saying that they could no longer help as JAGUAR had said the car needs further diagnostic at a cost of £2200
- I cannot afford even the diagnostic to find out the fault which would no doubt not be covered.
The car is now stuck at the JAGUAR dealer with an unidentified fault rendering the car undriveable. I have had to pay for alternative transport
- £1,000.00 paid by me for alternative transport so far
I feel I have been mis-sold a warranty which offered peace of mind. In fact the warranty has done the opposite causing more stress and upset than I could have imagined.
The warranty has rejected 2 claims so far, and even if they had been accepted the maximum payout is £2,500. The aircon quote was £4,200 so it was still not covered. The seller I believe should make clear that when buying a supposed 'prestige' marque that it is very likely that even an accepted routine or standard fault warranty claim would not be covered by the dealers exorbitant charges.
I would not have bought this car without the extended warranty described as offering 'peace of mind' by the salesman.
If anyone has any clue as how I could tackle this very stressful situation I would be very grateful. I was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's and this was supposed to be a purchase to provide happiness and a little sprinkling of luxury in my life. It has turned into disaster.

Did you read the T/C of the warranty? Which never cover everything & often have a payout limit.
Usual questions. How old & what mileage is the car?JAGUAR discovered faulty electrical power unit- astonished to discover this was NOT COVERED under the 'upgraded EV' warranty
Was that not covered by the Jag warranty?Life in the slow lane0 -
As the vehicle was already 3 years old when the OP purchased it (they said so right at the beginning of the topic) that is beyond the UK JLR warranty period.born_again said:Did you read the T/C of the warranty? Which never cover everything & often have a payout limit.

Once again, this topic shows the dangers of buying an out of warranty vehicle on PCP and the limitations of purchased third party warranties.0 -
My real beef is that, having never had a third party warranty before, I was oblivious to the fact that a repair cost for aircon repair for a Jaguar could cost £4,200. The selling dealer, when offering up a 'peace of mind' warranty should be more aware of this and make it clear that the cap of £2,500 would not cover a high proportion of claims. If the seller wants to pass all responsibility to the warranty company then they should not claim, when selling as an additonal product, that it will give 'peace of mind' in the event of breakdown, as it quite clearly will not.0

Depends, as Battery has a 8 year warranty. Which often will cover other parts of the electrical & drive train for same time frame.👍Ayr_Rage said:

Aftermarket warranties exist to distract you from your consumer rights against the dealer. They aren't intended to actually pay out on anything. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
I'd urge anyone buying a car to scrutinise the terms of any warranty they're considering purchasing. £1200 is a lot to spend on something when you don't really understand what it provides. There's an element of double-cover here, too. You almost certainly could have had the aircon and power unit problems fixed at no cost to you under your consumer rights, and possibly the alarm, too, assuming they all occurred in the early weeks of your ownership. Going through a warranty actually creates an inferior position to exercising your consumer rights in situations like this.0
