Stopping images on Chrome

I found the following setting for controlling images on the Chrome browser:
  chrome://settings/content/images
I named a couple of websites that were NOT allowed to show images.
But when I went to those sites, both static images and videos were displayed.
Is there another setting that needs to be used to stop these images?

Provide a link plus the address that you blocked?

At a guess the system is working by blocking images stored on a certain url rather than a website irrespective of where the images are so if the images are on a sub domain or on an AWS url or such then its not blocked.

Chrome’s built-in image control is limited. If your aim is to enforce predictable visual blocking, an extension like uBlock Origin gives you the necessary precision

The images on TripAdvisor have made it a poor viewing experience recently. So I tried adding the following on the settings page mentioned:
    Not allowed to show images
      tripadvisor.co.uk

    This didn't have any effect.
Not being particularly competent with tech, I try to minimise the number of apps I have on my laptop.
So I was hoping to block images without resorting to adding another app.

The full url is https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk   Maybe try that?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Right click on one of the rogue images and choose 'open in new tab'. Then have a look at the URL of the image in that tab.

Likelihood is that the images are being hosted outside of tripadvisor.co.uk - you can then add that domain to your blocklist.

But you might find you're also blocking image on other sites that use the same hosting.

I tried the advice on adding the image URL:

I added   googlesyndication.com   but got no change.
I added   https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com   but got no change.

I added   https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk   and got an interesting result.
The images themselves were not displayed, but the area for them, and associated text were displayed.
This is less distracting, but would not help with the worst problem. This is when the screen bounces up and down, and settles in an arbitrary spot, such that I have to scroll up and down to find the spot I was at previously.
I expect this is when the browser is finding space to interleaf the images, even though the images themselves aren't shown.

Yep, you need Unlock Origin to suppress parts of the page layout.

This sounds like what you are looking to do is block advertisements. For example, some low quality local newspaper websites load in adverts as you scroll that cause the text to jump up and down.

An ad-blocker would be a better solution or viewing the page in reader mode (which shows the text) perhaps even simpler.

Just having the text displayed would work well for me.
I followed the Google instructions (choose reading mode from right-click menu).
However, this results in a split screen with the following message in the reading mode section:

Highlight the text you want to open in reading mode

This wouldn't be a workable solution.
Is there another method that could be used to display just the text?
