Hello Techie's
The remote for my Matsui tv has stopped working :mad: After trying everything, I bought one of those universal type remotes but, to get that into working mode, instructions say I need to be on one of the normal tv channels. I have looked all over the tv and I cannot find any manual controls to change channels etc
all I can get is the AV mode. Can anyone please, please help? The tv is about 6/8 yrs old ( I am saving for a new one
)

It's a bit puzzling that the instructions would say that. After all, the remote doesn't know whether or not you are seeing a TV channel before you set it up.
I'm just guessing here but... I suspect the reason that they say that is so that people don't try to use the remote with a TV that has no channels already tuned in.
So I'd suggest ignoring the bit about being on one of the normal channels, go ahead and programme the new remote (presumably you have to enter a code for your make/model) and then see if it works!0 -
Thanks fwor, I have the channels now, using the old sky remote but, the volumn (sp) is so loud and neither of the remote's volumn buttons work :eek: any suggestions please?

You have a Sky remote? They can be programmed to control (most) TVs on their own.
Try following the instructions here:
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/satellite/remote/
If that works, you can Ebay the universal remote (though you won't get much!).0 -
Can I also programme the volumn, it has not worked for a long time?0

Yes, I know for sure that it can on some TVs, as I set my parents' sky remote up to control their TV. If you have input the correct code into your Sky remote as described in the link above, you just need to press the TV button followed by the Vol minus sign - it should reduce the volume.
Having said that, some TVs (e.g. some recent Goodmans models) simply don't seem to work with Sky remotes.
If none of the remotes can reduce the volume then it sounds as though the TV is faulty, I'm sorry to say...0 -

Some TV's have them concealed behind a flap.
You shouldn't need to be on a channel to make it work, as long as the set is on or in standby mode usually works OK.
Your real problem is going to be getting the working codes for it, Matsui isn't a " Brand " it is a Currys label that is applied to many makes of TV's.0
