ML 270 CDI Auto, UK Diesel version (2001) - Carplay

Hello, I have a lovely (now quite old) Mercedes - ML 270 CDI Auto, UK Diesel version (2001). I replaced the original sound system (which had CD decks in the boot - now obsolete and not used) with a single din Sony CD/stereo from Halfords years ago. I now want to replace the Sony stereo with Carplay/Android screen. I want to keep the original fascia and just replace the double din section - the opening is 178mmx114mm in the ML.

I could not find anything that fits so I then considered a single din with a pop out scree, however when i ordered one off eBay it arrived and all the wiring connections were wrong so neither I (nor a car mechanic) could install it. Has anyone done anything similar and can recommend?
