On the face of it you have paid too much tax for 2024/2025. If this is the case HMRC will probably issue a P800 in the next few weeks.

My 2023/2024 P800 was issued on 20th Jan 2025, so you may need to wait until January 2026. I received an email from HMRC and my P800 was available on the app and online in the messages section.

Alternatively you may receive a P800 calculation in the post. This will depend on if you are set up for paperless or not. You will be able to see you paperless setting in "Profile and settings".

    You're welcome.

By the way, to clarify my saying you would probably receive a P800, I have found the following possible alternative in an online search.

"If you are due a tax rebate and don't file a Self Assessment tax return, you may receive a Simple Assessment (PA302) letter from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC)."

Simple Assessments only apply to underpaid tax, not overpayments.

Thank you. Just shows the perils of using a simple online search!

Although on further analysis it appears that this quote comes from HMRC (as per the link below).

It is though for pensioners, so Google AI has summarised a position without giving the extra context.

Perils indeed. At least with you, D&C we can rely on Real Intelligence.

Perhaps worth noting that the paragraph before the one you quoted states:

When will HMRC issue a Simple Assessment

Customers receive a Simple Assessment where there is an underpayment of Income Tax for a tax year that cannot be collected automatically via Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and the customer is not subject to Income Tax Self Assessment.

    Yes indeed!

I am still coming to grips with simple AI such as Google AI.

Google used to be a very powerful but basic search engine. Now though it is occasionally giving an AI result.

I look to multiple sources for my information. I now wonder if I should be posting information here when I don't have accurate knowledge.

Perhaps I should be limiting my involvement here to my actual personal knowledge and experience.

Experiences can differ but for me there's a clear labelling of Google's AI overview feature when displayed above the traditional search results.

The forum admins aren't keen on people posting content generated by AI, although sometimes acceptable if clearly labelled as such, but personally I'll always try to cite verifiable (and preferably authoritative, where practical) links when sharing stuff found online, without feeling the need to limit posts to actual lived experience!

It's tricky because sometimes we don't know everything about the topic, but might be able to offer some information that will get the OP closer to an answer. I noted "p800" from your message as something that I could mention to HMRC if I end up needing to call them - it might not be exactly right (though it sounds like it is), but it'll get me close to the right part of HMRC inner workings. And of course, we rarely know what we don't know.

My bad habit is parroting something another poster has said on a previous thread, assuming they knew what they were talking about.

HMRC are slowly getting there with the 2024-25 tax calculations. My savings interest for that year was corrected in the last couple of days, and my tax code revised.
