Stolen card, transactions and PIN!

Hi all,

I recently completed a current account switch and my new debit card was stolen from the post (probably in my building post box which is not secure, I changed correspondence address but they still sent it to my home address - but that's another story!)

When I reported the fraud, they said that some of the transactions were made using the PIN.

Now, the PIN is apparently only available through the app and was not sent by post. I've never accessed the pin and did not even know they sent the card out.

My question - is the bank trying to shift the blame on me? and is there a way these scammers can use the card without a PIN? such as by possibly adding it to their Apple Pay to somehow bypass it?

I'm concerned the bank will try and blame me and there's literally no way I can prove anything! I work remotely, so I couldn't even show that I was in the office at the time of those transactions!

thank you

    Which bank is this?

Most banks don't operate personal accounts with more than one address, is this a business account?

Does seem odd because most banks insist that the card is used with a PIN before it can be used contactlessly, so no way it can be used without the PIN that way.

Stolen cards are often used to make online purchases but these will often seek authorisation via the app.

How did you discover the fraudulent use?

The bank will know how the card was used, pin, contactless, distance etc so the thief must have had the pin.

Had you set the app up?
If you had not, then it could be the thief set app up to get PIN.

As to how they will view this is down the their staff & your answers to questions. I hope you have reported to police the theft. Also to building owners over insecure post boxes.

Pretty common for banks to allow a separate correspondence address for customers.
Although on a new account card would go to actual address account is set up with. Security.
