Mis-sold my broadband?

(Sorry if you think this is the wrong forum but you will understand why I posted here shortly)

Due to cash flow issues between jobs, Ive been making do with my mobile data, ensuring I have an affordable tariff that gives enough data so long as I'm not streaming excessively. Admittedly its annoying having to switch hotshot on for alexa, and I cant monitor things away from home. My little hot-spot dongle that takes a sim card is useful, but only for keeping the alexas connected, since I don't want to spend more than a fiver on a second sim deal!

So, in September two young door to door EE sales folk, one male one female, were calling on all my neighbours and myself. I told them I wasn't interested just now, but would look for a deal for myself once I was back on my feet, explaining I was on Universal Credit. They were very nice and understanding, and went away quite amicably

A few hours later, the male returned, asking if I knew about some promotion thst universal credit recipients could get their Internet broadband for just £10! I was astounded, and of course interested. He had his tablet in hand, showing me, from afar, a big advert stating as much. I wanted to read more, but he then proceeded to give me a spiel about once the hub arrives, BT engineer enables my connection, (,EE still have to get openreach to do the install) then I would just need to create my account and show proof of my benefit to get my reduced tariff.

Only... nobody Ive contacted (and its blooming hard to get s person in first place!) has any clue... goggling, I can see there are certainly several providers offering big reductions for benefit recipients, but EE is not one!!!

What can I do, is this clearly misselling or something worse?

    Have you complained to EE?

As EE is part of BT you get signed up to their home essential tariff. But you do need to call BT to get switched.

That link's for EE's mobile social tariff

This is the BT social tariff link

Not sure if you've already signed up to something but whatever it is suggest you contact BT soonest.

You may find that these door knocker peeps don't actually work for EE or BT but are working on sign up fees commission.

My SIL had one of these last year and signed up to EE and wanted her landline number ported also. After 2 or so weeks since install got a letter about missed medical stuff and she called them up and was told they tried to contact her but no reply.

The number wasn't ported over and EE said that it was too late to get the number back and mentioned the people who signed her up weren't employed by EE.

She now has mobile number down for medical contact details.

Unfortunately, the story stops in September.  We have no idea what's happened since then.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

What has been mis sold to you?

You have said you were interested in an offer of a deal. You wanted to read more.

Now you cannot find such a deal for EE.

Did you sign up to anything with the caller at the door?
