Winter Fuel Payment

Hope this in the right section. As I was not entitled I opted out of the winter fuel payment on the 27th August and received email acknowledgement that my opt out had been successfully submitted. However today £100 winter fuel payment was made to my bank account. Has anybody else had this happen?

I had a printed paper letter from them, as well as the e-mail, in confirmation of the opt out.   Did you?

I've not had a WFP but did get a £10 DWP XB today. My DWP SP is due tomorrow.
  • Did not receive any letter confirming I had opted out just email confirmation with reference number. Also, I undertand that all those who receive the payment were advised by letter and I did not receive this either.

  • Did get the £10 DWP XB though
  • I received mine today, I am just letting them draw it back next year. I could not be bothered to do the extra step to opt out in the end. Sounds like it might not have happened if I had tried.

  • This a first for me. Hadn’t received my winter fuel payment yet. Looked on my 2023 bank statement and got 20/11/23. I spoke to my friend and she received in November. I searched my bank account and nothing which I knew anyway. So found phone number and called. After the usual blurb I got through to a human. Not very friendly. I explained and gave my details. This is the crunch time. Apparently my address was listed as Undeliverable Mail Address. I been here 6 years in February always get mail including DWP and HMRC. Correct address on my online account. Perhaps a way not to pay anyone. I had to listen to a statement that stated any wrong info or overpayment will result in fine or more. Hope this helps anyone.

It would likely be Royal Mail who updated the address as undeliverable. The DWP don’t deliver.

Many years ago my friend had not heard anything about claiming her state pension. When she enquired she was advised her record stated state she was homeless.
