Winter Fuel Allowance - If I opt out will hubby get full amount?

My hubby is over 80 so if he was on his own he would be eligible for £300.
This year he received £200 and I received £100.
I am 69 but still work a little so will just be under the £35k limit.
My question is....if I opt out does that mean that I am then not eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment my husband would get the full £300?

You can't opt out now for this Winters payment, that boat has sailed.

Even if you had chosen to opt out you would still be "eligible" for it and your husband would get £200, not £300.

Although at least one person thinks differently.

If you’re still getting 300 between you, does it make any difference anyway?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Don't opt out and make extra work for yourself and be £100 down.  If you don't want the money, although you will end up with the same amount - £300, then donate to charity,

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time
  • If you are under £35,000 you will get it in your own right anyway. It is only over £35,000 before tax etc that are exempt.

  • If one of you is over £35k then you might as well opt out as it will only be recovered in your tax bill Mine is ( in total ie £100etc ) If you are both over £35k then receiving it is pointless so opt out. I DO NOT know for sure if my wife will now get £200 (mine and her £100) but since I will only have to pay my payment back then there is no point in me receiving it. i would not be surprised if the government just said anyone in the household earns more than £35k gross then no payment to that household but that would be too hard to administer
