Argos supplying different goods to pictures

I had been looking for a mirror for my living room for ages and liked one in the argos catalogue . My cousin said he would buy it for my birthday so I gave him the catalogue numberand he bought it and gave it to me with the receipt.
When i opened it, it was a completely different mirror to the photo in the catalogue and on the website.
I took it back to the store and they said they hadn't had any annoucnements of any change but i checked all the remaining stock and they were ALL different mirros to the one advertised. They offered me gift vouchers which was pointless because I coulnd't actually buy the mirror they were advertising as they were supplying a different one.
I asked for a cash refund as I can't get the mirror there and they couldn't refund onto my cousins card as he needed to be there with the card.
I emailed head office who basically said the description on the website had been changed to say " double framed mirror" instead of triple framed mirror - but they admitted the picture was still the same and it was up to the discretion of the stores if they gave cash refunds but that managers did have the authority to do that.
I was refused a cash refund because of security - the Assistant i spoke to refused to get me a manager - refused to give me her full name and said she couldn't give a cash refund becasue the original transaction might have been fraud.
After looking again on the argos website they are STILL selling the mirror with an incorrect picture.
Is this a case for tradind standards?

Report them to trading standards.
Also when staff in shops decide to be difficult and refuse to let you talk to a manager I take the name on their badge and send a written complaint to Head Office with a description of their appearance (height, weight, hair colour, hair style, distinguishing features) plus the date and time of the incident. It gets interesting results.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

That's horrible - don't give up:money: get your money back0

With Argos refunds it depends with what mode the item was paid for?
Cash you get cash back.
Card either money put back on the card or a gift voucher
Vouchers vouchers back
If your cousin bought it with a card then get him to go into Argos and get the refund put back onto his card. Then get him to withdraw the cash for you.0 -
We had a very similar situation with Argos when buying a bike for our daughter, the pic on the web site was very different from the picture on the box, we spotted it before leaving the store, but as we had paid some of it on credit card and the remainder in Nectar points they tried to refund the card, but would take up to 10 days!!! and the Nectar points they wanted to give vouchers for - as we needed to get the bike that day for her birthday I stood and argued the point for a good 20 minutes until a manager eventually turned up, she just said give us cash!!!! What a waste of 20 minutes - just silly sales staff who try to be jobsworths!!!!
It does seem to be a problem with Argos though!!!0 -
we had this problem too. we bought a wooden playhouse for our daughter. we particularly picked one in the argos book based on the picture and description because we knew it would then fit in the space in the garden. we asked people to give argos vouchers as birthday presents to help with the cost. when they delivered the plyahouse it was totally different and would not fit into the space in the garden. argos would only refund us with vouchers as that was how we paid so we were stuck witht he vouchers .
trading standards weren't interested even though argos had been told months earlier that the picture and desription were wrong

While yes I understand that the mirror is wrong and Argos are in the wrong because the item doesn't match the description... Unfortunately you are not entitled to a refund simply because you didn't buy it!!
Just get your cousin to get a refund on their card for it.0
