It would be a very strange bank that didn't request your business details and check your details with HMRC if you're signing up for a business account.
They wouldn't check with HMRC if you're a sole trader working under your own name.
I am, and my bank do. They require your UTR number and business address, and I assume they check them once given.
Have you ever tried Tide?? Which is the bank in question here.

If you're trading under your own name at your own address then, in my experience, they won't ask for more, not even your UTR (which will be your personal one if running an informal business, which many people do).
I don't know what an 'informal business' is, it doesn't sounds very legal. Tide say in their own documentation that they may ask for your UTR. At a minimum they ask for information that includes your 'business name and industry'. Point being that if you don't run a business, it's not possible to provide the information they ask for and obtain a business account.
  • Several years ago I opened a Tide business account for an incentive. I was actually planning to use it for some side hussle stuff which never actually materialised. I recall registering as a sole trader, so no business name, but they asked for some details of my business - the type of industry it was involved in, etc. I don't recall need to provide my UTR.

The particular offer I took advantage of needed me to spend someoney on the debit card and put some money in their linked savings. It all paid out without issue.
