HMRC Compliance Check Letter

Hi all
I received a letter from HMRC who want to go into more detail regarding my last tax return. I've always submitted my returns and payments on time. I do my own accounts, and so have no accountant or tax advisor.
Although what they are asking for is extensive in terms of documentation, it seems relatively straight forward to do.
However, that said it was a bit of a shock getting the letter.
I just wondered if anyone else had been through the process of any hints and tips on how to tackle it. I have a case officer's email address and wondered should I contact them to confirm receipt of letter and I will provide the requested information ASAP. And did people provide their documentation piecemeal or everything in one go?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No it's genuine as it has correct HMRC details on it and they refer to figures on my tax return which only they and I know about.0

I wouldn't do it piecemeal. I'd say no harm in responding to acknowledge the letter, then get everything together.
It may have details only you and they should know, but still worth checking it's a real HMRC address. If it was an email you'd received, I'd type in what it should be or double check any links go where they should ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thank you Sue. It came through the post and the letter is quite detailed and extensive. The email address is theirname@hmrc.gov.ukSavvy_Sue said:I wouldn't do it piecemeal. I'd say no harm in responding to acknowledge the letter, then get everything together.

So I don't think it is a scam1 -
Your first step should be to check that the figures you entered on your return were correct and complete. If there was a mistake, then admit it in your reply - you will gain brownie points for co-operation.2
