Obtaining car ins when over 80 years old!

I've had 2 car insurers refuse to give a quote on my 2013 Mazda 3 for the coming renewal year(one was Go Skippy, my current insurer?
I've obtained a new insurer at a very good amount, it will start on the 20/12, hopefully as I am 80 years old next March they won't cancel before the start date(I've paid for my new ins already)
I assume that some insures will not quote you after reaching 80 years old, any one a solution to this or is it a case of searching for a insurer who will, most probably at a higher price.
Another query I have is that I was thinking of changing my car to a SUV either new or fairly new, would I be correct in thinking that this would mean a very large increase in my insurance?

Give it a try, find the reg details of a likely-looking SUV on Autotrader or somesuch and plug its and your details into one of the insurance comparison sites.1

Insurance went up for me at 80 and again at 85 also some insurers do not want to insure my car at it's introduction last year results of all this my insurance is expensive.1

My 82 year old friend came to visit us in his Motorhome for 5 days. While he was staying I tried to get him insured on my new MG4 Electric car. I could not get any temp insurance or add him to my insurance. The only quote I could get was if I took out a new policy but the cost was over £3000.
I understand that every car has its own risk. My neighbour had an old Vauxhall Astra basic cheap car and could not get insurance for his 17 year old son. However he got insurance cheaply for him to drive his Jaguar XJ4.
Would recommend just getting some quotes for different SUV's and find out.1 -
I couldn’t get insurance for my mum at 81. She never had insurance of her own, but was a named driver on dad’s for over 50 years. Dad lost his sight and had to give up his license but when I tried to get her insurance on her own only NFU would quote and they wanted £3500.We priced it out and we reckoned selling the car and associated savings would more than pay for taxis for the rest of their lives.1
