Newbie Question - APCOA Manchester T3 (Driver)

Hi All,

Fairly new here (have now read the newbies thread and associated threads), but messed up in apcoa appeal.

Drove to Manchester Airport T3 to drop off a person recently, stayed for 3 minutes, and because I don't drive there often it completely slipped my mind to pay the barrierless exit fee by the time I got home.
Only remembered it when I had to go back and pick the person up 2 or so weeks later! I emailed Manchester Airport immediately, explained the oversight and offered to pay the fee but they said a PCN had already been issued and to wait for it and appeal explaining what happened.

Here is the mess-up (no idea why I didn't think of this at the time), but when I appealed pretty sure I used language that identifies me as the driver. Probably thought that they would be reasonable and I am a believer in paying what I actually owe.

Surprise surprise, they rejected the appeal and gave me a choice of paying £60 or going to POPLA.

I am pretty sure I will lose at POPLA as they will say I indicated I was driving.

So now I am wondering what to do.

Part of me wants to just pay it because it was on me, the signs were clear enough, it just slipped my mind, but another part doesn't want to fund their scam operation that so many suffer from...

My question is what should I do? I saw some people recommending just ignoring apcoa, and some other more ambiguous answers. I would rather not pay as money is tight but I also don't want them later deciding it is a winning case and going to court to get the charges tripled + potential CCJ if I move and forget to notify them at any point in next 6 years.

Thanks for any advice.

Just ignore it. Also ignore silly, harmless debt collector letters. Come back in the massively and exceptionally unlikely event of you receiving a Letter Of/Before Claim from the PPC’s solicitors, or a County Court Claim via the Northampton CNBC, come back to this thread for further advice.

I don’t expect we’ll see you back on the thread. 😉
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

    Totally ignore the letters.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
