Hi, the latest windows update for windows 11 keeps failing , i'm getting Install error - 0xc1900101 for Windows 11, version 25H2. Ive retried half a dozen times. It goes through the process of downloading / installing and then undoing all the changes and going back to the start each time.
I do not know how to resolve this and i'm worried that eventually my computer will get hacked! Is there any way of resolving it? Thanks in advance!

In the old days you could do a recovery boot and roll back to a previous date, is that still an option.Just googled the error code
Afew people mentioning it on Microsoft site.....this was the advice from Update Win 11 25H2 fails to install - Install error - 0xc1900101 - Microsoft Q&A
This error usually points to driver or device issues. I recommend disconnecting external devices, checking that all drivers are updated, making sure there is enough free disk space, and running the Windows Update Troubleshooter. You can also review the update history in Settings to confirm the failure.0 -
I have exactly the same problem installing 2025-11 Security Update (KB5068861) (26200.7171)
error code Install error - 0x80070306
The update downloads and installs to 100% then shows the above error. Multiple retries and reboots don't prevent this error occurring.
I had the same fiasco with updating to 25H2 - the only way around this was a reinstall of Windows 11 using the current iso file, which is hardly ideal.
The PC is an HP Desktop, i3 that already came with Windows 11 installed.
There's no external devices attached to this PC other than the HP keyboard and mouse and it doesn't have any unusual software loaded. There's tonnes of free disk space too.
Neither DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth nor sfc /scannow show any errors.
Any ideas please?0 -
I have had a similar problem, which turned out to be an obsolete audio driver that was not removed when I de-installed a program. That old driver was not compatible with the latest Windows 11 update and Windows went around in circles and just wouldn't complete the install. It wasn't really a Microsoft problem, more an issue with the company that wrote the program that used the driver, as it wasn't removed when de-installing the program.I eventually found the source of the problem, but finding obsolete drivers is far from easy.0
