If you have a friendly local shop, you might find that they would change some, gladly - they are charged by the banks to get their change. Or at least, that was the case when I worked in one.0

My Bank and Bs are both 5 bags, so I just pay in 5 bags at a time, over a period of a week or so.0

We once took some bags of small change to halifax bank (not many, about 4) and they refused to allow us to put any of them in our account. Said they didnt have space to store money??

The Post Office should (official policy) take coin in any quantity if it's being deposited into an account* or being used to pay for items.
*which includes A&L, Coop and most of the big banks other than Natwest and HSBC0 -
The rule is there to stop business customers avoiding charges by paying their change into personal accounts. It's discretionary, so if you're nice and clearly not a business then you can pay in more (well, in our branch anyway).0

They are only charged if the teller can be bothered to write it down or enter it on the computer. Natwest is like this anyway as i could never be bothered as it's a lot of hassle. If you have a friendly local shop, you might find that they would change some, gladly - they are charged by the banks to get their change. Or at least, that was the case when I worked in one.
There is nothing more annoying than over filled bags of change. Oh yes actually there is, MIXED bags!!!"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0
