HELP !! Credit Card Fraud and a hacked email

Hi,

Someone has hacked into my husbands email address and somehow gained access to our credit cards. They tried to book a holiday and paid for it using a visa card we do not recognise. Visa have advised us that they cant tell us which institution has issued this credit card.
What can I do?? Need to make sure that an old credit card isnt  being used and no new credit cards have been applied for under my husband name

Have any unexpected transactions gone through on your credit cards?  What do you mean by 'gained access' to them?  You should probably contact the card companies asap and get them stopped and replaced.

Check the credit files for both of you, to see if there's anything unexpected there:

Why are you contacting Visa. Any issues speak to your card supplier.

Dont think the OP knows who the card supplier is.

If they do not recognise card then they have some card numbers.

OP needs to breath a sigh of relief it is not their card. The owner of the card will soon be aware of the fraud & it will be sorted by their provider.
Op is not going to be liable for the fraud.

Op should focus on securing the email acc that was hacked & checking that the hackers have not taken anything in their name.

Agreed.  They should change that email password and if (as many do) have the same passwords for anything else, e.g. banking, Netflix, etc. those need changing to unique passwords as well.  And add MFA to everything that allows it.

Since the OP’s husband has been advised of the purchase  it sounds like somebody has obtained the OP’s husband’s identity and used it to get a credit/ debit card in his name.

Or he became aware of this purchase because his email had been hacked?

Sign up with one or more of the on-line credit check services.  I use Credit Karma https://www.creditkarma.co.uk/ which is linked to TransUnion.
They will show all recent credit applications and open credit accounts.  Including credit cards.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
