Hi, I'm looking for help finding a travel insurance company that classifies a dog as a member of the family.
I was with Staysure for the last few years, me and my partner both are over 50, and both have medical conditions, nothing serious. In September this year my dog had to get a disc removed from her back, she was diagnosed 14 days before we were due to fly on a 2 week holiday, we had to cancel the holiday, but Staysure said that my dog was not classed as a member of the family so the insurance wouldn't cover the cancellation. £4000 lost plus the cost of her surgery.
Are there any travel insurance companies out there that cover medical conditions and class a dog as an important member of the family?
Thanks in anticipation

Check out this link
Churchill, Crystalsure, Direct Line, and Worldwide Travel Insurance Services and while most won't cover a pet's death or if it's gone missing, they will allow you to claim for cancellation of a holiday - if your pet is having urgent emergency treatment.
There may be a limit on the amount you can claim.0 -

Pet insurance fairly often contains a section for abandoned holiday costs if the insured animal is ill. Some Travel insurance too, often the terms are similar in both0 -

Careful reading of the small print will be key in deciding on a suitable policy. I suspect that wording such as "emergency life threatening treatment" may be very restrictive in what is covered. For instance if the dog broke a leg, the OP may have preferred to stay with it rather than go on holiday, but that would not be covered as it was not life-threatening.0 -
Careful reading applies to all sections of the policy to ensure you know exactly what you are covered for.martindow said:sheramber said:Direct Line policy document
