Leasehold 3 bed Semi Detached moved to Multi Occupancy Building Insurance

Hi, the issue I have is with the company that we are leaseholders to. We have a 3 bed semi detached house that is shared ownership at 75% in our favour. Our building insurance is covered in our service charge to the company that owns the other 25%. Now all of a sudden our building insurance has nearly doubled and is down under a “multi occupancy policy” . Now it states from articles I’ve read that multi occupancy would cover flats etc which there are some in the area. But we have a semi detached house with no shared areas so I’m confused as to whether or not we’ve been put on the wrong type of leasholder insurance? Not used to dealing with building insurance so any guidance would be amazing!

    I presume they just mean "multi-owners" rather than actual occupiers.

    Are you saying that the Housing Association has bought a different type of policy this year - and the result is that the premium has almost doubled? (If so, ask the Housing Association why they've changed to a different type of policy.)

    Or are you saying that the Housing Association has always had this type of policy - but this year the premium has almost doubled?

    (As an example, the premium might increase dramatically because of a spate of claims from other properties.)


    The law says that the insurance costs you have to pay must be 'reasonable', and if they're not, you can challenge them at a tribunal. But you'd have to put together a compelling case to support your argument.
