Thinking of making a website like Rightmove etc

I think you're not listening. Without hundreds-of-thousands of £s, you're not going to get anywhere.DefenderUK said:user1977 said:
No, you probably want to be asking somewhere else - we are generally people with experience of using Rightmove etc as punters rather than in running multi-agent platforms.DefenderUK said:Hi user1977, yes i've run a profitable website for about 12 years now, do you have any good ideas or suggestions for my new idea ?....
But what do you think you're going to offer that the likes of Zoopla or Onthemarket (which are both sizeable competitors to Rightmove, without yet supplanting them) can't?I think you are right, this forum is more for consumers and not entrepreneurs like myself, I think I've learned something today...Mnaaaaaaah...
Building the site is the easy bit. Do you know how much it would cost to run such a site? I see others have asked but I'm not sure you've responded - what is your revenue stream?
I can guarantee you won't have been the first person who's looked at RightMove and Zoopla and thought "I want a bit of that".
As posted above, others have (and still are) trying to do similar to what you're wanting to do and are not getting anywhere - its not a new idea. Had you heard of either of those two sites - I presume you did in your due diligence in investigating whether you wanted to move forward with your own idea?
But having that idea and asking a bunch of strangers on the internet if it is a good idea and whether they have any other ideas is not being an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur executes on an idea.0 -

I'm going to be a bit harsh here, to hopefully save you a lot of trouble later.
You're not an entrepreneur, you've barely got the basics of an idea "rightmove but free" isn't really much of a business plan. You've got feedback from your would be customers and instead of taking that on board you are looking to find someone else to tell you it's a good idea. You're looking at a very small subset of the problem and missing a lot of the big details: Most people don't want to sell a house by themselves, and would rather pay an estate agent to do most of it.So you're targetting a small niche of house buyers and sellers. But of those, how many will visit your site? What do they get there that's better than the other free options like Facebook, Gumtree, notice boards or just sticking a sign up?
Creating the site is trivial, but what you'll need for success is a critical mass of both buyers and sellers, and without spending a huge amount of money you're going to struggle to build that up.2 -
Sometimes people need to learn the hard way.0
