Metro Madrid Airport to Centre One night

We are doing a one night stopover in Madrid. So going from the Airport in the evening and back the next morning 

From what I have read? You cannot just buy a single ticket.

You need to get the Multi Public Transport Card in advance & then load it with a single journey ticket

Their website https://www.metromadrid.es/en/viaja-en-metro/titulos-y-tarifas/tarifas is not the most user friendly

Any help would be great

You can buy single tickets but must first have a card to load them on - these are issued by the same ticket machines so don't need to be bought in advance as such.

I love Madrid and the public transport system can be excellent but it can be confusing for a newbie

Yes, the muti-card is going to be the best for the Metro but it will involve a change to get to the city centre and there is an airport supplement so not necessarily a cheap option. There are some good guides on YouTube such as this one

There is also a bus service from Madrid airport to the city centre where you just pay cash (5 euros).

Of course depending on where your destination in Madrid is, you may then still need the metro.
