Octopus fixed tariff ending soon - deferred switch to new Octopus fixed tariff possible

Just wanted to make people aware that from my experience it is possible to arrange a switch from an Octopus fixed rate tariff coming to an end to a new Octopus fixed rate tariff but with the change deferred to the end date of the ending tariff. By 'coming to an end' I mean within the last 42 days, and the 'tariff coming to an end' email has been received from Octopus.
This is how it worked for me:
I was on the Octopus 15M fixed Sept 2024 v3 which was due to end on 24th December.
I received the 'your tariff is coming to an end' email on 6th November.
I rang Octopus up to ask if I could be switched to an Octopus 12M fix October 2025 v2 but for the change to take place from 24th December when the existing tariff ended. This was because the 15M fixed Sept 2024 v3 is currently cheaper. They were able to arrange this over the phone and sent me a confirming email immediately afterwards.
I've subsequently asked for the switch on 24th December to instead be to the Octopus 12M Fixed November 2025 v2 as this is cheaper than the October v2 and they have arranged for this to now happen.
The Octopus 12M Fixed November 2025 v2 isn't the cheapest fixed tariff out there at the moment for me, but because there is no exit penalty it does enable me to have something in place prior to my old tariff ending, and then I can review my options again.

@SnowMan Thanks for the info, I emailed them with exactly the same problem. Same tariffs and nearly the same date. It's good to know they will wait until the current tariff has fully expired before switching. I will ring them today. I too considered moving elsewhere ( outfox ) but because of winter just starting and not being in credit with them it put me off. Then i saw Octopus had brought out a newer tariff I thought i would  stay with them. Cheers

Thanks. That's not only cheaper than v2 but it's actually slightly cheaper for me for November and December than my existing Octopus 15M fixed Sept 2024 v3.

Oh for goodness sake, I emailed this afternoon to switch to the V2 for gas! Unsurprisingly  a further email has now been dispatched requesting V3 instead! 😂

My experience too! Octopus are giving me better prices, with no exit fees

They now seem to have reverted to V2 😂 Because that’s not confusing at all
