Everything is so maxed out these days that even "medium risk" seems like a high risk.
Four years is a short period of time, and at 4% savings accounts/ISAs you'll get £6400.
May as well chuck it to Premium Bonds - no risk to invested money, but risk to interests earned - as you may not get £6400 mentioned above.

Take a look at the Vanguard Life Strategy funds or any of the many similar multi-asset funds that offer a mix of stocks and bonds. They'll be something there to meet your appetite for risk.therocks64 said:Hi. We're looking at investing £40,000. Go on then, let's hear what you'd classify as high risk over four years on your scale - blindfolded chainsaw juggling perhaps?DodgyDave88 said:VWRL is a good place to start! I would classify that as medium risk especially over 4 years.
Individual stocks, maybe even S&P over a 4-5 year period. VWRL would be a safer bit for 4-5 years. Would easily outperform casheskbanker said:

Awful advice - at current elevated market valuations VWRL might easily crash 50% and take years to recover.DodgyDave88 said:Individual stocks, maybe even S&P over a 4-5 year period. VWRL would be a safer bit for 4-5 years. Would easily outperform cash
You seem to be suffering from a bad case of recency bias.

How are your personal pensions set up, and where is the 40k from?therocks64 said:Hi. We're looking at investing £40,000. Were both retired (60), living off our personal pensions and rental income from a property we own.

You're effectively divesting from a tax free investment each month, namely your personal pensions. You could reduce your drawdowns from that and leave more invested depending on how its stuctured.0
