Overdue Simple Assessment

Hi all,
I'm a teacher and recently received a request to pay over £300.
I've never done a Simple Assessment before neither do I remember receiving the form they are asking me about PA302.
Is this money I have to pay? It says it's tax I owe from a previous tax year/State Pension.
Can anyone advise me please?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry no idea what category this should fit in.

It isn't a form and isn't something you "do".letsgotosanfrancisco said:Hi all,

It's a calculation showing the tax you owe for a particular tax year.
Do you agree that the amount owed is correct?
Have you looked at your Personal Tax Account to see if the calculation is available there?0 -
If you have a state pension it's highly likely that it is correct in my opinion.Credit card 2091

Thank you, don't know about my Personal Tax Account. Is this something my finance office would be able to advise me on( I'm not sure where I'd find that information above)0

It's nothing to do with them, this is about your own income tax liability.letsgotosanfrancisco said:Thank you, don't know about my Personal Tax Account. Is this something my finance office would be able to advise me on( I'm not sure where I'd find that information above)
I think you can normally get into your Personal Tax Account quite quickly if you have a passport or driving licence.
Did your State Pension change during the tax year the Simple Assessment relates to? Did it start in that tax year?1 -
You find it here: https://www.gov.uk/personal-tax-account

Hi. I started a new job a year and a half ago after nearly a year out of work. I think this year teachers received a pay increase so perhaps it could be related to that?Dazed_and_C0nfused said:

Hi - if you use the link posted by @friolento to access or set up a HMRC personal tax account, you'll likely find a fuller explanation. It sounds like an underpayment of tax and HMRC give options of either having your tax code amended to recoup the underpayment or you can pay in full instead.
Within your personal tax account there will be a detailed breakdown and options.
If you don't do anything HMRC will amend your tax code and your take home pay will reduce to account for that.0 -
The idea of the simple assessment is that it gives a clear and concise summary of the tax situation for the year in question - if it's not self-explanatory then it might be worth sharing more details of it (a redacted image would be perfect)?0

Not when it's a Simple Assessment though. The tax owed (assuming it's correct) has to be paid direct to HMRC.Saver73 said:Hi - if you use the link posted by @friolento to access or set up a HMRC personal tax account, you'll likely find a fuller explanation. thank you for correcting me @Dazed_and_C0nfused I had a notification from HMRC recently saying I owed tax (an underpayment for tax year 24/25) and I was given the option of having my tax code amended or to pay the amount in full. The OP's situation sounded similar.0
