DWP Debt Management

Hi all
My son recently received a letter today about a small amount of money owed to the DWP. Now, he had been previously paying off and over-payment via direct debit but we both thought that stopped a while ago.
Unfortunately, he didn't keep any of the previous letters as he has a habit of just ignoring them and if my wife or I don't see them arriving in the mail, we don't know about them.
I thought it may be a scam at first, mainly because they spelled his surname incorrectly but all the phone numbers on the letter tie up with ones I find online.
The letter does show various ways of paying (including sort code and account number), as I said, it's a very small amount but I'm just wary of trying to pay it off in case it is a scam. Of course, being the weekend, we can't actually speak to anyone.
Would the tax office spell his name wrong or am I just reading too much into that.
Any thoughts greatly appreciates

Speak to them next week... official number. Only they can confirm whether legitimate debt and the circumstances....he needs to step up to that or assist someone else with the security required to deal with the call. Unfortunately we're not in a position to determine the facts here - official numbers usually implies legitimate.. incorrect spelling of names can occur but that could be caused by him or them... or a fraudster."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack1
