Car or van?

After reading through a thread from someone who seems to be clutching at straws about speeding, possibly due to not realising that a van has lower speed limits than a car, it dawned on me that I have assumed-and driven-my wheelchair accessible vehicle as a car.  I’ve done a quick Google (and I will obviously check the log book for the truth!) but the search seemed to give different answers.

So, car or van?

Peugeot Expert, 2014. Wheelchair adapted with a ramp. 7 seats.  Rear passenger windows open.  Large rear windscreen.  Less than 3.5 tonnes.

Have a look at field J on your V5. It will be M1 for a car; N1 for a van (<3.5t).

If you can't find your V5, you'll also find the M1 or N1 (or something else) listed as the vehicle type approval field in the "Check if a vehicle is taxed" info at:

Plugging that reg no into the vehicle enquiry service website gives a M1 code, so it's a car not a van.

Hopefully the OP's vehicle says the same.

If the OP's Peugeot is a goods vehicle, and meets the definition of Dual Purpose Vehicle {reg 3(2), The Road Vehicles {Construction & Use} Regulations 1968), it is not subject to the goods vehicle speed limits.
