TV reactive lighting strips?

Tried looking for a more suitable place with a bigger audience to ask this question but struggled to find where would be best to ask really so here I am.
We have the LED lighting strips on the back of our TV but they're the select a colour & that's it kind of thing.
I've seen videos advertising those strips which react to what is being displayed on your TV where a camera of sorts sits on the top of your TV pointing at the screen & then the lights react to what is being shown.
Looks ok in the videos (I think) but I have reservations about it vs the lighting that we've currently got.
If any of you have this or have experienced it, is it a bit distracting with all this lighting changing behind the TV or is it quite a good feature in reality?
I wouldn't want to go back to a setup where there's NO lighting, it's just a question whether I stick with what I've got or make the move to some kind of adaptive lighting setup.

It's the USP of Phillips' ambi lighting range of TVs.
Bought one for my mother, set it up with the LEDs constantly changing depending on what was on the screen. Interesting light show at first ( especially in a darkened room). But after the novelty wore off, I switched it off the functionality completely and frankly she appears not to be bothered either way.
Suspect my experience will be of no help to you whatsoever, since these matters are entirely subjective.2 -

You bought it therefore you must have been interested in it for whatever reason & you've come to then not be fussed by it. Good idea at first but not so fantastic in reality kind of thing.
Which is my concern.
The constant lights I have now, I'm completely happy with. I just pick a colour (actually it's usually white) and I leave it at that. I couldn't be without it tbh.
Just whether the reactive ones are worth the outlay (in comparison to what I've got). I have a feeling the light changing COULD get annoying so anyones feedback is certainly of help.0 -
It's a marmite thing....You either like it or not, I'm in the not camp. We set it all up for a neighbour on a Phillips TV, we stayed for drinks an tried the lighting out.
None of us really thought it added anything and could be annoying, so they set it to a single colour and were happy.
However, their son loves it when he's gaming.
My own TV setups are the same as yours with LED strips of my chosen colour behind. I'm looking at getting lighting bars for the cinema set up though.
You could order something like the Govee set up from Amazon and send it back if you don't like it.....
Well that's probably not helped you at all .....So, good luck with your choice....

On the contrary. Quite helpful.RumRat said:It's a marmite thing....You either like it or not, I'm in the not camp. We set it all up for a neighbour on a Phillips TV, we stayed for drinks an tried the lighting out.

When I got mine I don't think Govee were a thing here in the UK. I do remember having difficulty getting their strips because I was actively looking for them. They were all over the place on the American Amazon but not when I was looking on the UK site.
Seem more readily available now though.
Also never heard of lighting bars. I'll be taking a look at that.0 -
Generally ambient is best a 6500k - ie a very neutral white.
There are various brands that offer a solution like Philip's built in one where it tries to match the colours on screen, some use an app but only work with certain TVs, some a HDMI box and some a camera... personally known people that have tried them but got bored with the disco show and realised the white was better but these disco setups are not as good at producing the constant white thats ideal0 -
