New Uni Laptop

I need to get a new laptop for uni. I will generally be using word, excel, doing research and surfing. I have narrowed it down to two and would appreciate any advice as I don’t know which would be best. I really want a laptop that will last the next three years.
My shortlist is:
Asus Vivobook S14 Amd Ryzen 7, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd

or
Acer Aspire AI Oled 14” laptop, Copilot+ PC - Intel Core Ultra 5, 512gb, 512gb ssd
https://www.currys.co.uk/products/acer-aspire-14-ai-oled-14-laptop-copilot-pc-intel-core-ultra-5-512-gb-ssd-silver-10284846.html?sv1=affiliate&sv_campaign_id=47868&awc=1599_1763716424_513973efe195ce9738d8ec1e5498676f&srcid=369&xtor=AL-1&cmpid=aff~atolls%20UK%20%28hotukdeals%29~Discount%20Code~47868~Atolls+UK+%28hotukdeals%29&sv1=affiliate&sv_campaign_id=47868
with discount both are roughly the same price.

Pretty similar specs. One amd one intel.Asus are generally a little more premium than Acer (better build quality). I’d take the Asus. But either would meet your requirements.1

I've got an ASUS with a silver keyboard and its not easy to see in low level lighting even though it is backlit. My next machine will have a black keyboard with white lettering. Just a personal observation but I find it intensely frustrating when try to use the computer on my lap if I cant get it at the right angle to see the lettering. Apart from that its a really good machine.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1

Seeing OLED screens now coming to laptops at the ~£500 level (like the Acer above).
I know the tech looks great on my big telly but would you notice it on a 14" laptop? Maybe just watching (HD? UHD?) video content?
Not obvious (to me) that the ASUS has a backlit keyboard, if that's a consideration.1 -
Thanks everyone. As they are very similar I think I will try and view both. Then I can check build quality and what the screen looks like and make a decision then.0

@flaneurs_lobster Sorry for unknowingly breaking forum rules. Created wedfan account specifly for asking advice about a parking ticket. Parking ticket forum mention not using details that would reveal your identity and my norman log in would have done that through previous posts. I have been a member for over 20 years and find this site invaluable. I would never knowingly put my membership at risk.Sorry again.0
