  • Put nail in wall, hang it from the dark grey bracket - guessing its glued on giving the mounting holes are empty

As above.  Or else, you can use the 2 other brackets at the top - just depends on whether you picture is portrait or landscape.
The clips serve 2 purposes - to hold the glass in place, and to serve as hangers. For a lightweight item, it really doesn't matter which of them you hang it from - it's different if it's a substantial weight.
Oh, and if it's just lightweight, you don't really need to worry about screws and rawl-plugs - a small panel pin will do the job just fine.

I did that with a picture I bought and it hangs away from the wall. I hope the OP has better luck.

First Q - is the mounting bracket in the right place, ie at the top of that pic?
If so, this just needs the teeniest of picture nails in the wall, hammered in at a downwards slope, and leaving only 4-5mm sticking out.
    Jobbie jobbed.
Unless the bracket is not at the top...

string through the clippy bits, assuming you've got them on the 4 sides.   if you don't have picture string, use strong cotton thread, possibly garden twine, not strong sewing thread.  you don't want something leaving the wall at 3 in the morning in 5 years time.

    nice picture btw.

    String ma botty.
IF the picture is the 'right' way up - ie the hanging bracket is at the top - then just get a picture pin, and tap it into your wall until 5mm or so still shows. Hang the picture on that, slipping the bracket down over the pin head.
One of these, and at roughly this angle:

The picture will not fall off, and it will lay flat against the wall.

This happened to my clock. Hanging fine for about 4 years using command strips. Then one night 3am I heard an almighty bang, crept downstairs expecting to find the door kicked in but it was the clock lol

Before you start hammering nails measure where the middle of the clip is from each side. The hole should be exactly in the middle.
It's not unknown for them to be stuck on randomly and they won't hang straight.

If it's not then come back and we'll start again.

Have you got plaster walls or plaster board?
Single hole things won't stay straight on plasterboard for long as every tremor jiggles them.
